Mollywood mourns Abi

Abi is remembered in the social media posts of celebrities in Malayalam cinema.

Mollywood can’t help mourning the loss of actor/mimicry artist Abi. A pall of gloom is spread over celebrity social media profiles ever since the sad news of his demise came on Thursday. From Amitabh Bachchan to Mammootty to Amina Thatha, Abi had a way with capturing the nuances of every character he mimiced. The ‘who’s who’ of Malayalam cinema either put up a few words or condoles with a photo post. Mammotty, one of the few actors he used to imitate, don’t hide his grief. He acknowledges Abi to have helped him to think and correct himself.

Though he could not gain a strong foothold in films, Abi was a presence in the 1990s. He was recently seen in Thrissivaperoor Kliptham. Abi leaves behind a scion for cinema, his son Shane Nigam, who got initiated to big screen playing lead roles. Prithviraj marks this point in his message “RIP Abi Ikka! I’m sure you’ll be watching from above as Shane makes you proud!”

Dulquer Salmaan does not mince words on his FB post. “Can’t stop thinking about the countless times he's made us laugh. A lot of my growing up had watching his shows on tv or even seeing him live on stage shows abroad with my father. His immense talent and endearing charm was timeless. And now Shane his son is one of our greatest breakout talents of Malayalam. Having done several films with him I got to see Abi ikka a lot of late. This is so sudden and so unexpected. My deepest condolences to the family [sic].”
