I freaked out after watching myself: Vaigha

Actress Vaigha, who had been away from silver screen after she met with an accident is back in action.

The name Vaigha may not immediately ring a bell but mention the films Kaliyachan and Ennu Ninte Moideen, recognition will dawn. The actress has been on a sabbatical for the past two years after ENM, but it had been a forced one. Vaigha explains, “Soon after completing ENM, I joined for an MBA course. I also met with an accident that necessitated six months of complete bed rest. So these two factors combined had me taking a break from pursuing film offers.” She is now back to doing what she loves the most — acting. Vaigha will be seen in the upcoming Malayalam film Zebravarakal starring Meghna Raj and Sheelu Abraham.

Like most Mollywood actors, she has also marked her presence in Tamil through the Lawrence Ram directed film Aruvadai. The break has done Vaigha good because she has lost oodles of weight and is looking trim and fit. She smiles, “I have always been a fitness freak and I really freaked out after watching myself onscreen in ENM; I was so plump! So I decided to take my workouts more seriously and the weight loss you see is two years of slogging it out at the gym!” The pretty lady comes back to her films, “I had already been offered a role in the Sajin Lal’s Zebravarakal earlier, but since it was a small role, I decided to not do it. But call it destiny; I was later called for a meatier and more prominent role that was to be done by Ansiba which she couldn’t for some reason. My role is a very strong one and the film focuses on friendship and is a woman-centric one.”

Vaigha goes on to add that the specialty of the film is that there is no hero which clinched the deal for her. Being away from the camera for two years put a dent on Vaigha’s confidence and she candidly confides, “I was tense because I was facing the camera after a while but my co-stars Meghna Raj and Sheelu were so cooperative and sweet. We bonded really well and there were no clashes between us.” The Tamil film will see Vaigha in a very de-glamourised avatar. She explains, “I play the character of a woman working in a brick kiln and had to go completely makeup-free applying dark make up. It is a very rustic character and sometimes the shoot would go on till 2 am, but it was all worth it because my character is very strong. I even did the dubbing for this film and believe me, getting the slang right was a huge challenge, especially the pronunciation of the word Dindigul.” The film has a few more days of shoot left.
