Mirai Gives Telugu Cinema Another Big Boost in Japan
Producer TG Vishwa Prasad, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, says the response reflects the growing international appeal of Telugu cinema.

Japan has emerged as a promising overseas market for Telugu cinema, and Teja Sajja’s Mirai appears to be strengthening that connection even before its release.
The film has entered the Top 10 among Indian films for Day 1 advance bookings in Japan, joining Telugu titles such as RRR, Baahubali 2, Pushpa 2, Devara and Salaar that have made an impact in the market. Mirai has also moved ahead of Dhurandhar 2 in the current rankings and is closing in on Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai. With two more days of bookings still left, the film has the potential to climb further.
The early response is particularly significant for Teja Sajja, whose HanuMan had already introduced him to a wider audience. The film also released in Japan and reportedly collected around Rs 1 crore. Mirai, however, appears to be opening up on a much bigger scale, with stronger advance bookings and considerable traction even before its theatrical release.
With its fantasy setting, Indian mythology and large-scale visual spectacle, Mirai offers the kind of distinctly Indian cinematic experience that appears to be finding an audience in Japan. The early numbers could signal another step forward in Telugu cinema’s growing presence in the country.
Producer TG Vishwa Prasad, speaking to Deccan Chronicle, says the response reflects the growing international appeal of Telugu cinema.
“Some Japanese audiences like larger-than-life Telugu films, and it is encouraging to see our cinema expanding beyond our shores. Telugu cinema’s expansion is unmatched,” he says.
For Teja Sajja, Mirai could mark another important step in expanding his market beyond Telugu-speaking audiences. After HanuMan established his pan-India appeal, the early Japanese response to Mirai suggests that the actor and Telugu cinema may be finding an increasingly receptive audience in yet another international market
