March 2026: Record-Breaking Surge at Indian BO

As of now, total collections continue to outperform previous benchmarks.

The Indian film industry achieved a milestone in March 2026. Domestic theaters grossed Rs 1,690 crore rupees during the month. This performance ranks as the fourth-best monthly total in history. Much of this success came from a single title. Dhurandhar: The Revenge (Hindi) dominated the market by earning Rs 1,273 crore rupees. An Ormax report notes that this film alone was the "primary driver" for the month. It contributed over 75% of the total revenue.

The Hindi film industry is seeing a drastic resurgence. Its market share reached 56% so far this year. This is a sharp increase from previous post-pandemic highs. Other notable contributors in March included Project Hail Mary (English) and Ustaad Bhagat Singh (Telugu). These films helped push the quarterly total to Rs 3,440 crore rupees.

Previous records were logged in December 2024 (Rs 1,922 Cr, because of Pushpa 2), December 2023 (Rs 1,837 Cr, because of Dunki and Salaar) and December 2025 (Rs 1,721 Cr, because of the first part of Dhurandhar).

As of now, total collections continue to outperform previous benchmarks.
