Mahesh Babu is undergoing rigorous physical training, including Kalaripayattu, for his role in the upcoming adventure drama directed by S.S. Rajamouli. Hyderabad-based Kalaripayattu trainer Hari Krish Kakani recently shared pictures from their sessions. He described Mahesh Babu's lifestyle, aura, and hospitality as "deeply inspiring" and expressed pride and gratitude at coaching a "global star of Indian cinema." Kakani captioned a photo with the actor: "Feeling proud and truly blessed to have trained @urstrulymahesh sir in the ancient Indian traditional martial art Kalaripayattu." He also thanked actor Nasser and director Rajamouli for the opportunity.
Kalaripayattu, an ancient Indian martial art originating in Kerala, is considered one of the oldest surviving martial arts. Also known as Kalari, it is a scientifically structured psycho-physiological discipline rooted in historical heritage, encompassing unique combat principles, rigorous physical training, strong spiritual development, and the use of traditional weapons like sticks and swords.
Following the massive success of Baahubali and RRR, director Rajamouli is known for cinematic excellence marked by grandeur, exceptional cinematography, and gigantic production budgets. His next film, reportedly titled with a massive budget of Rs 1300 crore, features a star-studded cast including Mahesh Babu as Rudhra, Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Mandakini, and Prithviraj Sukumaran as Kumbha.
Introduced at a Globe Trotter event, the movie revolves around a time-travel concept. Mahesh Babu's character, Rudhra, was depicted blood-soaked, holding a trishul and riding a bull, suggesting action infused with mythological elements. The film promises a never-before-seen avatar for the star and targets a Sankranti 2027 release.
