Madonna’s Teaser For Confessions II Becomes the Talk of the Town

Madonna’s new music video, or rather, “short film” as she prefers to call it, arrived with the kind of anticipation reserved for pop royalty at the 25th Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Titled Confessions II, the 13-minute visual was conceived as a sequel to her era-defining album, Confessions on A Dance Floor (2005).

The teaser serves as a précis of her long-awaited studio album Confessions 2, set to release on July 3rd. It starts with the Queen of Pop audaciously seated in a chair in a dark room as a troupe of robotic women raid her with cameras. In this mayhem, Madonna asserts, “I can be whoever I want to be”, and other lines referencing the first song “I Feel So Free”.

A whirlwind of sequences follows, piecing together the first six songs on the album. A suggestive scene of Madonna entering a forest, dodging lasers firing out of men's and women’s bodies, teased the next song, “Good for the Soul”. Subsequently, the short film transitions to Madonna driving her way to a nightclub bathroom and partying with other stars, introducing “One Step Away” and “Danceteria”.

Familiar faces from film, music, sports and pop culture appeared throughout the visual, with star-studded cameos from Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Moss, Odessa A’zion, Debi Mazar, Gwendoline Christie, Richard E. Grant, Archie Madekwe and footballers João Pedro & Cole Tucker, each with their own dose of playful absurdity and innuendo. Julia Garner’s intro stood out, with her set to play Madonna in her anticipated biography. Sabrina Carpenter’s appearance introduced a snippet of their duet “Bring Your Love”, as the film concluded with Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon.

Lavish and theatrical, Confessions II - The Film swiftly became the talk of the town as a glittering collision of celebrity, glamour, and sensuality from a timeless pop icon stepping into a brand new era.
