Chandrika Ravi is the first Indian-Australian to make it to the centrefold of the popular magazine, Maxim. The svelte model is multi-talented with years of experience in acting, Kathak, and classical dancing. Now, Chandrika is all excited about her Kollywood debut with Sei starring Nakul and Aanchal Munjal.
Opening up about her role, she says, “To an extent, I think I play myself in the film. My character is someone who has traditional as well as western traits. It’s an influential role in Sei.”
When asked how she bagged this role, she muses, “I was in Mumbai for work and I heard the script of Sei. At that time, my role was not part of it. After seeing my talent and professionalism, they came up with a tailor-made character for me.”
Chandrika doesn’t want to be typecast as a model trying her hand in K’town. “Being a trained actress, I want the characters I play to be the central point of the film. Just being a pretty face in the industry is not my thing,” she rues. Also, she is glad that she gets to display both her acting and dancing skills in Sei. “I have a dance sequence and the choreography has a classical touch to it. Only in Tamil films, you get to act and dance. In the West, Indians are typecast as nurses, and it was hard to break the mould. “ The actor has a couple of films on hand, and will probably shift her base to Chennai in a couple of years.
