Tamil Nadu film fraternity to meet CM on April 4
Chennai: The film associations of the state like Fefsi, Nadigar Sangam and Directors Association are planning a mammoth procession on April 4 to meet Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami and information minister Kadambur Raju and present their memorandum to sort out the crisis.
The Tamil film industry has been on strike for the last 30 days and no new movies have been allowed to release in that time. “The shutdown will continue till our demands are met. No new films will get released. Till now, no solution has been arrived. It is not in our hands, but with the exhibitors. We only ask for transparency,” Vishal, secretary of the Nadigar Sangam, said.
“When subsidy was not given to Tamil films for 7 years, this government gave to 149 small films. I am confident government would understand our plight and definitely would help us solve the issue. We want to regularise everything before restarting business”
The actor-producer said that he would not call it a strike and would term it only industry revamp. “We want people to come back to theatres and it should be user friendly.
We don’t want the audience to feel that going to theatres is a costly affair.”
Asked whether Rajinikanth and Kamal are taking part in the procession, he said, “We have invited all artistes and hopefully most of them would participate”. RK Selvamani, who heads Fefsi, revealed that hereafter all payments will be made only through cheques.
Vishal concluded the media briefing saying, ‘Under the present scenario, we (producers) and farmers are in the same level. Another company is making millions with our content while we are the losers.”
