Arya debuts in Sandalwood
Tamil heroes, who started exploring other markets like Telugu and Malayalam, always keep away from Kannada industry which has very limited scope in terms of business and remuneration. Few big actresses like Nayanthara and Trisha did one film each after Sandalwood filmmakers paid them a bomb. Now, among the young crop of heroes who is making his foray into Kannada film industry is Arya.
The actor will be seen in an alluring role in a rom-com titled Rajaratha directed by Anup Bhandari. At the launch of his yet another rom-com interestingly titled Ghajinikanth where he teams up with the one-film-old Santhosh, Arya speaks about his Kannada debut.
“I am always open to different markets and any language as long as the script fascinates me. That was the precise reason I picked up some interesting roles including Santhosh Sivan sir’s Urumi in M’town and Tollywood flick Varudu. I had watched Anup’s debut directorial venture Rangi Taranga, a mystery thriller and a blockbuster movie and I was very much impressed with its making. When he did the narration for Rajaratha, I felt this would be my perfect launch pad in Kannada. Also, the offer was lucrative.” The best part is that the Madarasapattinam star has learnt Kannada and dubbed his own voice.
Ask him if he would continue his stint in Kannada, pat he replied, “Why not? If the script and pay package are good, I will definitely do more films.”
Prod him about choosing Santhosh P Jayakumar, who hit limelight with his adult content Hara Hara Maha Devaki, Arya reveals, “My movie is not an adult content movie. It’s a breezy rom-com with the working title Ghajinikanth. Also, please don’t come to any conclusion with the title. I play an IT guy and it is all about romance and humour and they are situational comedy. I loved Santhosh’s sense of humour when he gave me the narration. The film will be on the lines of Boss Engira Bhaskaran and Raja Rani. Moreover, with Gnanavelraja helming the affairs, the production values will be good.
On his co-star Saayeesha, Arya says, “She has a substantial role.” He has also been tightlipped about making his debut into yet another medium of entertainment. The video of him asking women to send in their profiles as a matromonial choice if they like him, created a huge buzz. Rumours were rife that it was for the desi version of the reality show The Bachelor. The show has a bachelor who, in the hope of finding his true love and life partner, dates a few women over several weeks.
Perhaps taking cue from other popular K’town stars — Suriya and Kamal — who made it big in TV as well, Arya might have taken the big step too. However, a close source tells us that there were many offers from television in the past for Arya. “He is pro television and always feels that TV is booming and if he gets the correct content, he would accept. He has always been there at all Chinna Thirai programmes too.” But all said and done, the Naan Kadavul actor is still on the
lookout for a soulmate in real life. And he says it will be a girl of his choice.
