It appears the actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan's Vishwroopam 2 will release before Rajinikanth’s Kaala, which was earlier scheduled for an April 27 release.
Because of the ongoing strike in the Tamil film industry, there’s a backlog of films waiting for the NOC from Tamil Film Producers Council to apply for CBFC Certification. Kaala, directed by Ranjith and produced by Dhanush and distributed by Lyca Productions, is one among those.
Sources say now that TFPC has given its clearance but the film is yet to be censored. Meanwhile, Vishwaroopam 2 has been given U/A Certification and is ready for release. Insiders say that if Rajini's Kaala is not releasing as planned, Kamal has decided to bring his Vishwaroopam 2 to theatres sooner.
The buzz is that Ulaganayagan plans to hold the audio launch of VR 2 soon in a grand manner when would also be announcing the release date.
