P Susheela sings her way into Guinness Book of World Records
Chennai: Legendary playback singer P. Susheela entered the Guinness Book of World Records for singing the highest number of solo songs. The veteran had rendered 17,695 solo, duet and chorus songs in six languages. It was verified as on January 28, 2016, and she was honoured with a Guinness Certificate.
Pulapaka Susheela 80, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, made her foray into tinsel town in 1950 at a time when top singers like P.Leela, Jikki, and ML Vasanthakumari were dominating the scene. Susheela went on to make a mark with her mellifluous, distinct voice.
Susheela was the first playback singer to receive a national award for Best Female Playback Singer in 1969 for the song Paal Polave from Sivaji starrer Tamil film Uyarndha Manithan and later she won national honor four more times. She was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2008.
