Ishara's second innings!
Though her first two films could not establish her talent, Ishara Nair came to limelight with her blockbuster flick, Sathuranga Vettai. She showed a lot of promise in the film, but soon after, she went into hibernation. Now, the actress is back with a movie Adhi Maedhavigal. Touted to be a new genre — ‘fri-com’ (friendship comedy) — it is directed by Ranjith Manikandan, a former assistant to ace actor-director Bhagyaraj.
Speaking about her role in AM, Ishara, who has shed six kilos, says, “The film is a light-hearted comedy and is dedicated to engineering students who have backlogs in their course. I play the role of Suji, and I am paired opposite VJ Suresh Ravi, who essays the role of Vikram. The movie revolves around the two, their arrears in engineering and its repercussions. Those who graduated from college will definitely connect to the movie.”
About her own arrears, if any, whilst in college, she recalls, “Oh no I didn’t have any! But, I had friends who had failed in 10 to 12 subjects and later cleared it!” (smiles)
Director Manikandan reveals, “I worked on the script for four months and I have added several incidents from my own life. Initially, I filmed a teaser for the script of Adhi Maedhavigal, which eventually helped me pick the curiosity of the producer. We had 20 days of workshops before the shooting commenced.”
Coming back to her brief hiatus in the industry, Ishara explains, “After Sathuranga Vettai, I got a lot of offers. But those were typical rural characters like SV. I didn’t want to be typecast. I decided to sign films where I play a modern girl as well. Also, I wanted to pick roles that are performance oriented, rather than adding numbers to my kitty. Hence, I waited for the right script until AM came my way.”
She has four movies now, including Papparappam and Ivan Yarendru Therigiradha. Having lost a lot of weight, Ishara is also keen to act in those movies which are high on action quotient — “My height is a big plus point, so, I want to try my luck in pulling off an action avatar.” Her long pending Tollywood debut film Okasari is still in the cans.
