The camel ‘Sarah’ is soul of Bakrid: Vikranth
Vikranth, recently seen in heist thriller Suttu Pidikka Uttharavu, is excited about his next titled Bakrid where he plays the solo hero. Directed by Jagadeesan Subbu of Sigai fame, the film talks about the bond shared between a camel and a man. The story revolves around a stray camel that enters the life of a farmer portrayed by Vikranth and how he strives to save the animal.
Speaking to DC, Vikranth says, “It’s been 11 years since I came to the industry. I have not come across a story like Bakrid. I am very confident this would give me the necessary break. I want to work with Subbu once again.”
Sharing his experiences, he said, “Producer Murugaraj had to go through a lot of formalities and struggle to get the camel, named Sarah, from Rajasthan. It took eight months to get the necessary permissions and we had a deadline of 100 days to return the camel to them. We gave proper training to Sarah and it took a month for us to get friendly with her. It’s a travel story and we shot in various locations including Chennai Manali, Maharashtra, Pune, Rajasthan and Goa. And we had to face irregular weather conditions like heavy rains and storm in between. But, we have not used a single graphic shot for projecting Sarah. People whowatched sneak peeks rave about it.”
The director rules out any issue over the sensitivity of the subject of camel sacrifice while vouching that the film has a larger message to society. “Two months prior to the Bakrid shoot, we submitted the bound volume of the script to the Animal Welfare Board. We obtained proper clearance from them before proceeding further,” he adds.
While Vasundhra essays Vikranth’s pair, Bollywood actor Rohit Pathak, Baby Shrutika play crucial roles. Imman composes the music.
