Simbu, who’s had a bit of a lull in his career, seems to back with a bang. After wrapping up Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, the actor has gone on a signing spree and announced four new projects — a film with Vijaya Productions, another with Kalaipuli S. Thanu, a directorial venture, and Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya 2.
Rumours regarding Simbu’s intention to team up with filmmakers Venkat Prabhu and Karthik Naren of Dhuruvangal 16 fame have been doing the rounds for a while. Now, it’s official. Venkat Prabhu has tweeted a picture of himself with Simbu and producer Suresh Kamatchi, and captioned it, “Yes it’s official!!!! My next is with my brother #Str produced by @sureshkamatchi #2019 #vp9 and it’s a fresh script!! Not a sequel!!! Artists, technicians, title and other details will follow!! Get ready to be rocked!!!! #superthrilled need all ur love and blessing as always!! (sic).”
In an exclusive chat with DC, Prabhu reveals details about the project. “STR and I have been talking to each other for a long time regarding a possible collaboration. Now, things have materialised. I just narrated the idea to him, and he was fascinated. In fact, he said, ‘I know you won’t tell me the full story beforehand. I am happy with just one line.” the director says. Ask him about the genre of the flick and he adds, “It will be a mass commercial action thriller.”
The director also discloses that it is for the first time that he has signed a new project with another film still under production. “Normally, I don’t sign new films while I am working on a movie. My multi-starrer Party is yet to release. This film has just happened, somehow,” he says.
