Hansika Motwani stepping out of her comfort zone

Hansika speaks about her upcoming film Manithan, how Udhayanidhi has evolved over time and teaming up with Jayam Ravi for the third time.

Hansika is back to sharing screen space with Udhayanidhi Stalin in Manithan, a remake of the B’town hit Jolly LLB, that is hitting screens today. The actress answered queries without mincing her words in an exclusive with DC.

About her meaty role in Manithan, she says, “Usually, I do bubbly and glam roles but in this film, I have been subtle, and underplayed it. It is is an important film in my career.” Usually seen in glamorous getups, Hansika has little makeup in this film. “I play Priya, a school teacher. She is confident and assertive, wears cotton churidars and salwars throughout, has her hair combed back and wears no makeup except for a thin line of kajal,” she explains.

Hansika feels that her co-actor Udhayanidhi has evolved over time — “I was his first heroine when he debuted as a hero, and I have seen him grow. Now he does not shiver holding my hands, which he did during our first film OK OK! In Manithan, he has a lot of lengthy dialogue, which he handled with ease.”

About choosing bad scripts in her career, she says, “As an actor, it is okay to fall and get up. Then you can give your best. Sometimes audiences don’t receive it well, but you have to take it in the right sense. It is part and parcel of being in the industry.”

In her next film Bogan, she teams up with Jayam Ravi for the third time — “I am extremely happy to be paired with Ravi. Bogan has created a buzz because it is the Romeo Juliet pair coming together again!”

When quizzed whether she plays a role with grey shades in Bogan, Hansika says, “A lot of people said it was a very big thing to do Romeo Juliet because the character had two shades. Bogan will have a surprise as well, but I can’t reveal much now.”

Can we hope to see Hansika in any other department in cinema? “I am just 24. Give me some time. Right now, I am focusing only on my acting career,” sums up the actress.
