Though many Bollywood stars, including Akshay Kumar, showed keen interest in acting in the Hindi remake of K’town’s Kaithi, it is now confirmed that the part has gone to Ajay Devgn.
SR Prabhu of Dream Warrior Pictures, who bankrolled the original and is now making his debut in B’town as a producer, confirmed to DC that Devgn would reprise Karthi’s role.
Prabhu said, “With Kaithi being an out-and-out action film, we felt Ajay, with an action hero image and agile physique, would fit the role perfectly. He is also well suited to play the father of a 10-year-old girl in the film. After watching the original, thoroughly captivated with the content, he gave us the dates despite being busy with other commitments.”
And not only that, Devgn would be a co-producer, along with Reliance Entertainment, said Prabhu.
Interestingly, Lokesh Kanagaraj, who directed the original and is busy wrapping up his Master with Vijay, will not be wielding the megaphone for the remake. As we reported earlier, he will be directing Superstar Rajinikanth in his next film, bankrolled by actor/politician Kamal Haasan’s banner. Reportedly, it will be Rajini’s last film before he embarks on his political journey.
