From costume designer to actor
Sathya NJ, the costume designer who is behind the trendy and stylish attires of A Listers like Vijay (Bairavaa, Theri) Sivakarthikeyan (Maan Karate) Arya (Raja Rani), has turned a full-fledged actor now with Arunraja Kamaraj’s Kanaa, which is on women cricket.
The young actor who is a gully cricketer in real life talks to DC about how he got the plum role and worked alongside ace Sathyaraj in Kanaa produced by Sivakarthikeyan. “I know Arunraja Kamaraj for a long and we became friends through cricket. While he was a fast bowler, I used to be wicketkeeper during the matches. My long-term dream is to play in Celebrity Cricket League. One of the conditions to be part of it is that the actor should have performed in at least 7 movies. When I heard that Arunraja is making his debut with Kanaa, I approached him and gladly agreed and asked me to attend the rehearsals. I was given a chance as well and I played the wicketkeeper in the film as well (smiles).”
On working with Sathyaraj he quips, “I was so scared while sharing screen space with a legendary actor like Sathyaraj sir. He is a one-take actor and I wanted to be more careful while enacting the scenes without going for a retake. And it is a different ballgame playing cricket on screen and real life.”
Sathya also thanked Sivakarthikeyan for trusting him and giving a full-length role in Kanaa.
