Bharathiraja will get national award for Kennedy Club

Interestingly, he essays director Susienthiran’s dad Nallusamy (former Kabaddi champ) in the film.

Several real life women players who are part of Kennedy Club - a film on women’s kabaddi – and who are all new to K’town as they have never been exposed to cinema, have lived out their characters in the film. They are a dedicated lot. Throughout the shoot, we all worked like a family,” remarked ace filmmaker Bharthiraja who returns to donning greasepaint for Kennedy Club.

Interestingly, he essays director Susienthiran’s dad Nallusamy (former Kabaddi champ) in the film. “KC is not a film, it reflects the lives of rural people. I am honoured to play Nallusamy, who has immensely contributed to this sport. I don’t want to live like Ambani. I want to be born as Bharathiraja in all my births.”

Heaping laurels on his co-star Sasikumar who portrays a kabaddi coach he said, “Having acted at close quarters with Sasi, I realised that there’s a child in him. We gelled very well.”

On his part, Susienthiran said, “Bharathiraja sir will definitely get a national award for his alluring performance. I would give him the dialogue sheets. He would glance at them once and complete his shots in just single take. I would enjoy watching him
perform from a distance. We all know how Sasikumar has successfully dabbled between acting and direction. He has mentored nine filmmakers in Tamil cinema.”

The film has D. Imman’s music and all who spoke at the event said that Kennedy Club would elevate the composer to next level.

The women’s kabaddi team, which won the Tamil Nadu CM Trophy recently and part of the cast, were honoured with gold medals. Others who graced the occasion include Ezhil, Agathiyan, SD Sabha, Lenin Bharathi, Ramprakash, Kathiresan and Siva.
