Vairamuthu clears the air about his remark on Kabali

The legendary lyricist who apparently called Kabali a failure' has now clarified that he uttered the word inadvertently.

Legendary lyricist Vairamuthu’s controversial speech calling Kabali a ‘failure’ has landed him in a spot of bother. The multiple national award winning poet, while addressing a niche gathering at a book launch event in the city, remarked during the course of his speech that Rajinikanth’s recently released movie Kabali was a flop.

The film has received phenomenal response in terms of box office collections and mixed reviews from critics. Under these circumstances, the clip of Vairamuthu’s speech sent shock waves and was going viral on Internet.

He was apparently referring to people attending the function wearing sports jackets! Vairamuthu, who has written several songs in the past, especially the significant opening numbers for the Superstar had said that director Pa Ranjith took inspiration from them and showed Rajinikanth in stylish suits in Kabali.
Later, talking about several matters, he said, “I am trying to understand various things like each and everyone who have come here — politics, science, family, men, women, children, missing flights, Kabali’s failure among others. Whether you are accepting them or not, there is a necessity to understand them. Good poetry teaches you to understand all of the above.”

Meanwhile, upset over Vairamuthu’s remarks, producer Thanu has reportedly said that he knew why Vairamuthu badmouthed Kabali. The reason was that he was not given a chance to pen the lyrics for the movie. Thanu also revealed that Vairamuthu, who says the film is a failure, took 4000 tickets of the movie for the FDFS without paying a penny.

In a quick move, Vairamuthu clarified his side through a statement. He now states that during the speech he had mistakenly missed out an important word ‘success’ before the word ‘failure’ in his emotional flow of words while talking about Kabali, which led to this huge controversy. The lyricist added that he and Rajinikanth share a great friendship and he spoke to Superstar once he landed in Chennai even before the issue started and clarified his position.
