Aimin' at Amristsar!

South Indian actress Priyamani tells us about her recent visit to the land of the Golden Temple.

1 Of all the places I’ve been to, a recent trip to Amristar followed by a subsequent visit to the Wagah Border is something that’s truly close to my heart. Amritsar is truly a heaven for voyagers with an eye for nature and patriotism.

2 I staunchly vouch by the adage, ‘When in Rome, do as the Romans do.’ So, I ensure to binge on the local cuisines and partake in the festivities and traditional ceremonies if I get the chance, wherever I travel to.

3 The rich lassis are synonymous to Punjab. While I was in Amritsar, I ensured I drank a lot of flavourful lassis and ate at the local dhabas. In fact, I still remember eating at the Sarhad Dhaba, which has the best of rotis and lassis I’ve ever tried! The most interesting part about this bar is the fact that since it’s located just about a kilometre away from the Wagah Border, it supplies food to both Indian and Pakistani soldiers!

4 Some of the unmissable highlights of the visit include a visit to the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh. Also, the Wagah Border Ceremony that sees a cheery war of sorts between the Indian and Pakistani soldiers really invoked a great deal of patriotism in me. It goes on for about 30 to 40 minutes, and is truly insightful as huge crowds hoot for their soldiers from either side.

5 As far as my expeditions planning go, I’m quite an under planner! I believe in taking everything that’s necessary and then splurging at the destination. It’s always good to explore different places and then hoard up on the signature buys.
