From Vadivasal to Neduvasal

K'Wood stars have begun to show their support for almost every battle for a cause. Here's another one.

After strongly supporting students on their pro-jallikattu protest, several celebrities including Kamal Haasan, Vishal, GV Prakash, and filmmaker Thangar Bachan, Pandiraj, have raise d their voices for yet another social issue regarding the proposed hydrocarbon project by the Union Government at Neduvasal, Pudukottai.

They express their solidarity with the villagers of the surrounding areas, who object to claiming that if implemented, the project would completely suck out the ground water and also bring down the fertility of the soil, turning it unfit for anything.

Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, who is vocal about his opinions on various issues, including jallikattu protests, and the recent political developments in Tamil Nadu, once again took to social media and posted a series of tweets in support of people and environmentalists, who rally against the execution of Methane project in Neduvasal.

“Any corporate success story that begins with destroying Nature and the livelihood of the poor, in retrospection, will be a bad plan. TN beware,” he tweeted.

Yet another tweet read, “Nature can supply for all our needs but not for even one man’s greed. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi!” Praising the students, he posted, “Students of TN. Way to go. Maintain peace. You speak 4 farmers & people of TN. See how elders are with you treating you as equals. Bravo.”

He has even appreciated the decision of Pondy CM — “Bravo Honourable CM of Pondicherry, for your clear stand on Hydrocarbon project. My salute.”
Speaking to DC, actor Vishal, said, “Being a person who believes in farming and support farmers in their endeavours, I will make sure that this project would never materialise and be stopped.”

Though he was not too open about what he is up to, we found out that Vishal is planning to file a PIL (Public Interest Litigation Case) against the said project.

The Amabala actor, along with a group of people, will be reaching Neduvasal in a couple of days and sit along with the protesters as support for them. Musician-turned-actor, GV Prakash, who is actively involved in raising his voice through an audio song and being physically present during the jallikattu protest at Alanganallur, told DC, “The hydrocarbon project is dead against agriculture and farmers. I don’t know why they take advantage of our people’s vulnerability? When in all the other states, only a few places have been identified for the project, I heard that only in Tamil Nadu, more than 49 places have been proposed. I strongly support the farmers and I want to be with them at the protest soon.”

Director Pandiraj was spotted amid the public at the hydrocarbon protest crowd. Speaking as to why he was there, the Pasanga 2 filmmaker said, “I am not here as a film personality. This is my native place (Virachilai from Pudukottai) and as a child, I have brushed my teeth with this soil only. My father is a farmer and I am also one. Taking a break from cinema later, I would want to come back to farming here.”
