I was destined to act in Raatchasan: Vishnu Vishal
“I didn’t understand a word when director Ramkumar narrated the script of Raatchasan because he was so shy that he kept looking elsewhere and not at me. The psychological thriller has a complicated storyline and perhaps it was difficult for him to narrate the script,” revealed Amala Paul at the audio launch of the film.
Actor Vishnu Vishal, who plays the protagonist in the film in his second collaboration with Ramkumar, said that he believed he was destined to act in it. “After doing Mundasupatti, I was very keen on working with Ram again. He told me that he was working on a script and that he would let me know about it. But when I called him after six months, he said that I wasn’t right for the character he had envisioned. A bit upset, I told him that she should have told me that earlier. Then, when I met him a year-and-a-half later, he said that he was yet to find a producer for the film and asked me if I was still interested. When I heard the script, I felt it had a lot of over-the-top heroism, so I asked him to tweak it to suit my image and I came on board,” he said, adding, “I play a cop who is investigating a challenging case. I am happy to hear people who have had a sneak peek of the film say that it’s my best work to date.”
Vishal also revealed that it was he who gave Amala the second narration after the initial confusion with Ram. “Once she was in, she was so focused, and she gave it her best,” he said.
Also speaking on the occasion, director Ram said, “I met with at least 20 producers and narrated the script to 17 heroes. No one said the script was bad, but they were apprehensive about whether I would be able to handle such a heavy subject after making a comic riot like Mundasupatti. Honestly, Raatchasan was written first, but since everyone said that a comedy would be accepted by the audience more easily, I tried my hand at humour.”
He added that though he had repeated the cast of his first film - Vishnu, Ramdoss and Kaali Venkat - they would be seen in very different avatars. “It’s a mystery thriller and an engaging drama with a relevant message. People will be able to connect with it in this modern age,” he said.
Ghibran’s music is said to be one of the high points of the film produced by Dilli Babu of Axess Film Factory. Raatchasan will hit silver screens on October 5.
