Pakru as Vedhalam!
Recently, we saw Pushkar Gayathri’s film Vikram Vedha based on the popular folklore Vikram and Betal. Now, a new film titled Uppu Puli Kaaram directed by Gururaja explores a similar concept. The story progresses when Betal comes to Earth and meets King Vikramaditya. The proceedings are told in a simple manner.
Malayalam comedy actor Pakru, who is a Guinness Record holder for being the shortest actor to play a character in a full-length flick, has been roped in to play the Betal. Veteran actor Bhanuchander’s son Jayanth plays the lead and Kaushika, a lookalike of actress Ranjitha plays his pair.
Talking about the movie, distributor- turned-producer cum director Gururaja says, “The folk tales of Vedhalam (Betal) belong to a period when kings were ruling. My story revolves around the theme of Vedhalam appearing in the current scenario and riddling Vikramadhithya — it is a fictional attempt.”
Bengali actress Poulami is being introduced in Tamil with this movie as one of the heroines, and Devendhran of Vedham Pudhidhu fame returns as a composer after a long gap.
