Rajinikanth is my only competitor in the film industry, claimed comedian Powerstar Srinivasan at the audio launch of his upcoming flick Vaanga Vaanga. Ismail is directing the film, which talks about the impact of Facebook in rural areas! While national award-winner Appu Kutty essays an assistant director, Powerstar plays a producer in VV.
Srinivasan had the audience in splits with his hilarious speech. He compared himself to the late popular actor Silk Smitha, recalling an incident — “A producer approached me for a single dance number in his film. He offered me Rs 8 lakh. I told him to add '2 lakh more and give me a round figure of '10 lakh. Pat came the producer’s reply, ‘this is much more than what we used to pay Silk Smitha’. That gave me a big high, and I was asking myself if I am a male Silk!’”
Coming to Superstar, he said, “I really admire Rajini sir’s self-confidence, hard work and perseverance to reach this level of superstardom despite the struggles, hardships, and ups-and-downs he has undergone. I want to be like him, and follow him, and that is why I take him to be my competitor.”One may recall that Srinivasan, who knows how to stay in the limelight, joined BJP during the recent elections.
