Ilayaraja comments on Christ spark controversy

A fringe group named Sirupaanmai Makkal Nala Katchi' has started demanding that the Isaignani' be arrested.

Maestro Ilayaraja's controversial remarks on Jesus Christ in a recent interview to a television channel have landed him in a spot of bother. A fringe group named ‘Sirupaanmai Makkal Nala Katchi’ has started demanding that the ‘Isaignani’ be arrested. To make their point they protested in front of the maestro’s residence in T.Nagar.

Raja had reportedly said, “No saint in the world lived like the great saint Ramana Maharishi. They say Jesus Christ resurrected and rose again from the dead. But there’s no proof to it. Ramana Maharishi is the only Mahan who has resurrected in life and that too at the age of 16.”

Peeved at his comments, the SMKK, who claim their religious sentiments have been hurt, said, “Christians strongly believe that Christ resurrected after being put to death. We want police to arrest him for making some irresponsible comments.”
