Even though director Samuthirakani is busy acting in several ventures, he makes sure that he wields the megaphone for content-oriented films in between his acting projects. Appa was one such movie that hit the theatres in 2016. The film, starring Samuthirakani, Thambi Ramaiah, Namo Narayana and Vinodhini, was about a do-gooder who tries to bring in a change in parenting, education and other pressing issues in the society.
The film is now being remade in Malayalam with Jayaram and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in the lead roles. A source close to the director states, “The shooting of the movie commenced day before yesterday with a formal pooja. The film has been titled as Akasha Mittai in Malayalam. Also, the child actors who featured in the original, Yuvalakshmi and Nashath, along with actress Muthumani and other prominent actors from M’town are part of the cast.”
In an earlier interview with DC, Samuthirakani stated that he has tweaked the script to suit the tastes of Malayalam audience.
