Thirunaal, a significant film in my career: Jiiva
Jiiva, who was missing in action for a while, is back with a village-based script Thirunaal. What’s more interesting is that he pairs up with Nayanthara after nine years!
The excited actor tells DC, “When I listened to Ramnath’s narration, Nayanthara felt like the right choice to play the female lead. Initially, when they approached her, she was busy with other commitments, but I insisted that she take up the role. I am confident that this will be one of the significant films in my career.”
All praise for the Naanum Rowdy Dhaan actress, Jiiva adds, “Nayan easily fits into any character she portrays and in Thirunaal, she plays a school teacher. Even after nine years, she looks the same as before and I thoroughly enjoyed working with her earlier.”
Ask him why he chose this script, he says, “People have been asking me why I am not doing ‘local’ characters these days and I guess they would be happy to see me that way. I play a thug nicknamed ‘Blade’ from Kumbakonam, which is where the entire film is set. Throughout the movie, I appear in colourful lungis. That’s my only costume! Though the film is loosely based on rowdyism, it has everything that a family audience would look for.”
Speaking about Ramnath, he says, “He is focused and knows exactly what he wants. The whole team worked hard, so that we could complete the film on time.”
Having worked with Srikanth Deva (who has rechristened himself Sree) in E and Thenavattu, Jiiva feels music will be the highlight of Thirunaal. “When Ramnath met me, he had a CD with tentative song tracks for this movie. I was wondering who composed them — he told me it was Sree. He has done a great job with kutthu in all his previous movies, but aced melody too in Thirunaal,” he concludes.
