Producer Suresh Kamatchi's speech sparks controversy
Director Murali Krishna returns to screens after a long gap, with the movie Naer Mugam, which features Rafi and Meenakshi in the lead roles. At the audio launch of the film, producer Suresh Kamatchi, who wields the megaphone for the first time with the movie Thiruppathi Laddu, drew everyone’s attention with his controversial speech about the Tamil Film Producers Council, the supreme body of K’town.
He said, “In the last eight years, there have been 400 small budget Tamil films which are deprived of the state government’s subsidy. Meanwhile, we have seen a change in guard for the state twice, while the office bearers of TFPC have changed three times. Still, nothing has been done about this subsidy. We have a Chief Minister who is from the film industry and supports us in many ways. But I really doubt if the honchos of TFPC have taken the issue to the government directly. But all said and done, while applying for the subsidy, a sum of Rs 1000 is being paid from the Council to the government. We also hear that the screened people have also watched all the films, but still there’s been no movement for the last 8 years.” Actress Namitha released the first set of the audio CDs by handing over a copy to actor Pandiarajan. Meera Nandan was also present on the occasion.
