Who would’ve thought that a fitness trainer could get the chance to crack the Tamil film industry? Well, it is Chennai-based Sumita Hazarika’s hard work and luck that’s made her try both — fitness and cinema. She has a couple of films in hand and is eager to see where she fits in the industry.
Her entry into Kollywood was not by accident. She explains, “After devoting one-and-half years to fitness, I became a personal trainer to several prominent personalities. After I gradually built my contacts, I was offered a small role in the ongoing Brahma.com starring Nakul and Ashna Zaveri. Even though it was a small portion, I felt that the job was interesting and exciting.”
Now, Sumita is playing a significant role in Mohan Raja’s untitled film with Sivakarthikeyan and Nayanthara. “I play Nayan’s friend and hostel mate in the movie. We shot a couple of scenes in the movie and she is extremely friendly. I have a ‘girl crush’ on her and I somehow mustered up courage to talk to her when I met her for the first time! But, she has a warm personality,” gushes Sumita.
So, what does the future hold for her? “I am on the verge of signing one more film. Films are interesting, but I wouldn’t leave fitness for sure.”
