New title for Mellisai
Vijay Sethupathi and Gayathri starrer Mellisai, which was lying in the cans for a long time, has been rechristened Puriyadha Pudhir, and will be released in a grand manner. This is all thanks to J Satish Kumar of JSK Film Corporation, who has bought the worldwide release rights of the movie. The Kuttram Kadithal producer tells DC why he changed the title.
“This is my fifth film with Vijay Sethupathi sir. The movie was completed a year back, but could not make it to the screens. It was Sethupathi who called me and requested to have a look at the film, which was in post production. I also know director Ranjit Jeyakodi, as he was Ram’s former assistant. He is a talented person. The movie has shaped up well and I immediately took a call to release it,” JSK reveals.
On changing the title, he says, “Mellisai was too classy and poetic. Technically, it may be the correct title. But the movie is a thriller and the climax suspense cannot be guessed by anyone. So, I felt audiences might not connect with the story especially amongst B and C centres. Hence, after a lot of thought, and considering titles like Nettrikan and Moodu Pani, we decided to lock Puriyadha Pudhir, which is very apt for the script.”
JSK also points out that he has taken permission from producer RB Choudhary, who earlier made a blockbuster film with the same title. “It was nice of Choudhary sir to give his approval without any hesitation.”
While Vijay Sethupathi plays a man in search of a job, Gayathri — who has equal footage as that of the former — essays the role of a part-time violin teacher. “This will be a significant film for Sethupathi as well as Gayathri,” says JSK and signs off.
