Chennai floods helped me rediscover myself: Vikram
As a tribute to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly during last December’s deluge in Chennai, Chiyaan Vikram has come up with a video and an anthem titled ‘Spirit of Chennai’, which was unveiled recently. The actor himself has wielded the megaphone for the video, which features the real life heroes who helped the affected people and big movie stars from all the south and Bollywood industry including Abhishek Bachchan, Suriya, Karthi, Prabhudeva, Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Jayam Ravi, Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Nithya Menen, Khushboo, Amala Paul, Bharath, and Nivin Pauly.
Explaining what inspired him to take this initiative, Vikram said, “The Chennai rains and resulting flood was one of the saddest and most debilitating events that the world has seen or faced, leaving the city and adjoining areas helpless and stranded without food or drinking water, even the loss of life in many cases. What turned the world’s attention to us was not the nation’s wrath, but how the city, instead of crumbling and succumbing, rose to fight back and save itself. A first for any city! This inspired me as it did a million others and that’s how ‘Spirit of Chennai’ was born.”
He added, “It is an anthem, a story that speaks of the spirit and love that people of Chennai are capable of portraying. It also raises a pertinent question. Do we need a calamity to make us reach out to one another? When I searched for a team to make this dream come true, a thousand good souls came together with the same compassion that Chennai exhibited, without a moment’s hesitation. Thank you Chennai for making me believe in humanity and what it’s capable of. Thank you for letting me discover a better version of myself.”
Vikram thanked his team including lyricist Madhan Karky, composer Girinandh, cinematographers Vijay Milton, and Om Prakash, assistant directors and the host of artistes and children and people who are part of the anthem.
