Y Gee Mahendran trolled for comments on CAA protests

If all we wanted to do was sight-adichufy, a tea shop would have been enough, netizens tell Y. Gee Mahendran.

Even as the entire nation is voicing views on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), with students protesting in various parts of the country and violence erupting in several places, the Act has received support from some quarters.

Many actors, like Siddharth, Kamal Haasan and Amala Paul, have been supporting the protests in various ways. On the other hand, a comment in poor taste by veteran supporting actor and theatre personality Y.Gee.Mahendran against the agitating students did not go down well with netizens, and they have been trolling him mercilessly.

Speaking at a school function, Y.Gee. Mahendran had reportedly said: “As far as I am concerned, the male students are going for the protest to gain a holiday from the management and have fun creating ruckus. And they protest only to ‘stare’ at girls who are in the crowd and nothing more to it.” He was also reported to have said that he would not be bothered by any comments made against him for his remarks.

Singer Chinmayi, who is vocal about various issues on her social media handle, wrote, “Comments from men like Y. G. Mahendran must be ignored, as it’s a waste of time talking about them.”

One social media user changed Y.GEE. Mahendran’s name in Wikipedia as a way of denouncing him.

Hemachandran posted, “Worst statement ever on students. Do you have sense Mr Y.G Mahendran. Evolo keezh thanamana ennam ithelam...Aalum valaranum arivum valaranum athuthan valarchi @savukku @rajakumaari @ckknaturals @tnrags."

Guru posted a funny icon and wrote, “A tea shop in front of a college is enough for ‘Sight adichufying’. We don’t need a protest place.”
