Kolayuthir Kaalam is not a remake of Hush: Chakri Toleti

Chakri Toleti on the rumours surrounding his next film..

Music director Yuvan Shankar Raja has had a wonderful 2016 with hit after hit. To top it off, he also announced that he is venturing into production with YSR Films — and that his first project would be Kolaiyuthir Kaalam starring Nayanthara, directed by Chakri Toleti of Unnaipol Oruvan and Billa 2 fame.

There have been rumours doing the rounds that the film is a remake of the Hollywood movie, Hush, which was helmed by Mike Flanagan. Speaking to DC, Chakri Toleti clarifies, “No, the film isn’t a remake of Hush. However, I admit that the lead character is inspired from one of the characters from the film though. Kolayuthir Kaalam is a different plot with multiple actors. We are currently finalising the cast and are planning to announce it soon. Hollywood writers Adam and Carl are penning the script for the film. It is not an adaptation of Hush nor of Sujatha sir’s novel as speculated.”

When asked about the title, he explains, “Kolayuthir Kaalam has a nice ring to it. Since the novel also has the same title, it was reported that we needed permission from Sujatha’s wife. But, the rules for films and novels are different. When we checked with the guild, the title was available and we went ahead and registered it.” According to reports, Kolayuthir... is a women-centric story and will further cement Nayan’s status as queen bee.
