Lakshmy row with RJ Balaji escalates
If it was Sivakarthikeyan who earlier faced the wrath of actress-filmmaker Lakshmy Ramakrishnan for spoofing her show Solvedhallam Unmai on a TV channel in his film Rajini Murugan, it’s now the turn of GV Prakash and RJ Balaji to face her anger — which has now turned ugly. She even blasted the latter on social media... ending in quite a ruckus. How did it all start? GVP and Balaji’s recent film, Kadavul Irukkan Kumaru directed by Rajesh, had a lengthy spoof sketch of Lakshmy’s reality show, with even veteran Urvashi being part of the scene. Things turned serious when Lakshmy posted this message on Twitter — “Rendu pondattilkaranum, child abuserum, sonna, kindal pannina, show pannamairukkamaattom (Just because those who have two wives and are child abusers mock my show, I won’t stop doing it!) ”
Soon after, she decided to end the drama quitting the website itself... for good, it now seems like. “Coming out of all social media NOW...Thanks to all my supporters & Best wishes to those who hurt me & insulted me:) Good luck & Bye (sic)” Lakshmy had also earlier tagged RJ Balaji in a series of tweets that criticised him for using his ‘power and th emagic of cinema’ to mock others’ sincere efforts, and even brought up his actions during last year’s floods, posting, “@RJ_Balaji if i mock you saying you played it out and became a hero during #chennaifloods for the sake of publicity, how will you feel?”
Clearly, the Aarohanam filmmaker felt deeply affronted by the fact that she continues to be a target of sketches and spoofs — but is such an angsty rant justified? When contacted to give an explanation, RJ Balaji, who is now having a good run as an actor, argues, “Honestly, I don’t have to react or answer to her comments. I am an actor and am paid for it, and do what my director asks me to do for the film. I have delivered what the director has envisaged. It is his writing.”
He quickly adds, “I use my social media handles to confess my opinion outside work, and promote my movies besides using it for good causes. But all said and done, what she has posted, I find it cheap.” We wonder where this row is headed towards next!
