Reba Monica comes in for high praise

Actor Nitin Sathyaa, who turned producer with the film Jarugandi, speaks about his experiences in making the film. Directed by Pitchumani, a former assistant of Venkat Prabhu, the film has actor Jai and Reba Monica from Mollywood making her debut in the lead. “I am happy that I have made a quality film. Though bankrolling a film was a huge responsibility, I had Badri Kasturi with me who coproduces the film who made my task easy.”

On the content he says, “Jai essays a man from a middle class family who faces a certain problem which every youngster can connect with. The film deals with a current issue that is prevalent in the society. How he comes out of it forms the rest.”

Why the Jarugandi title? “Jarugandi is a common term in Telugu used to denote ‘move on fast’. Here every character in the film will run for something or other.” Nitin says he would continue producing good movies and his next is either a children’s animation film or a quirky subject.

Reba, on her part, said, “I have done few Malayalam movies. Initially, I hesitated to accept the film since I was not conversant with Tamil language. But since the script was interesting, I couldn’t but say yes.” On her co-star Jai, she said, “He is very comfortable to work with. He also gave me enough space and time and was very supportive during the shoot.”

Those who spoke at the promo event hailed Reba as the next Shoba (late actress who won the national award at the age of 17) of Tamil cinema. Daniel Annie Pope, Robo Shankar, Ilavarasu, Bose Venkat and G.M. Kumar are others in the cast. While RD Rajashekar cranks the camera, Bobo Sashi is the music composer.
