Kamal Haasan asks fans not to celebrate his b'day
Kamal Haasan has requested his fans welfare association not to celebrate his birthday (November 7), as the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa is not in good health and has been undergoing treatment in a city hospital for more than a month now.
The professional actor that he is, Kamal never misses out on meeting his fans on his birthday every year, whenever he is in town; in fact, he spends his day indulging in philanthropic activities. Several welfare measures for the needy and deserving are undertaken on this day. However, he asked his Narpani Mandrams, via social media, to strictly avoid conducting or indulging in any activities to celebrate his birthday.
Meanwhile, celebrating anniversaries of pathbreaking movies, is the latest trend in Kollywood. Ardent fans of top heroes celebrate their idols’ iconic movies in a big way. Some of Rajinikanth’s movies including Baasha, Vijay’s Ghilli, Ajith’s Billa 2 were hailed when they completed their anniversaries.
Looks like Kamal is no exception to this trend. Two of his most memorable flicks, Nayagan, directed by Mani Ratnam, and Kuruthipunal, by PC Sreeram, which were released on Oct 21, 1987 and Oct 23, 1995 respectively, are being remembered by his fans, becoming the trending topic online. Even Ulaganayagan has reciprocated to his fans’ touching gesture.
“Touched by admirers remembering Nayakan & Kurithippunal. Hoping to make you happy in future. Applause gives my life and art more meaning,” (sic) he wrote on his social media.
