The second part of Maari which is yet to start shooting now has Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas as part of its star cast. The film which is a sequel to the 2015 gangster flick of the same name has Dhanush playing an arrogant, city gangster. The director of the film, Balaji Mohan, took to Twitter to share the latest development with his friends and fans. Speaking to DC, Balaji Mohan says, “When I began writing the script of Maari 2, I started off by etching the antagonist’s character. Since Maari (played by Dhanush) has a strong characterisation, I worked on the villain’s role and then moved on to the plot.”
Talking about choosing Tovino, she reveals, “It’s a unique villain character that needed someone who is also a lead actor to pull it off. Tovino is an intense actor who can transform into roles. When we narrated the story, he was excited by the character and agreed to come on board.” The announcements regarding the heroine and music director would follow, he adds. Shooting of Maari 2 will commence in November.
