RGV skeptical about Tamil audiences

The film received flak from critics, who thrashed Ice Cream and said it was one of RGV's worst-made films

Navdeep, who was last seen in Aa Aa Ee Ee in Tamil, way back in 2009, only to disappear into oblivion, is back with a dubbed movie called Chocobar — originally made as Ice Cream in Telugu by maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma.

An experimental film, it deals with a protagonist obsessed with eating ice cream and suffering from a strange disorder. Tejaswi Madivada, the dance choreographer-turned-actor who appeared in Natpadhikaram 79, is the female lead. In addition, the film was reportedly made at a cost of just two and a half lakh rupees.

The film received flak from critics, who thrashed Ice Cream and said it was one of RGV’s worst-made films. Sources say that Navdeep, who began well alongside Arya in Vishnuvardhan’s Arindhum Ariyaamalum, is hoping to make a comeback in K’town and start his second innings here.

Madhuraj, who has purchased its dubbing rights says that he wanted show to aspiring filmmakers that a standard film (Ice Cream) can be made at a cost as low as two-and-a-half lakh rupees, which is the money spent just on story discussion sessions these days. “Initially, RGV refused to part with Tamil dubbing rights as he felt that Tamil audiences would not understand his movies. I was stubborn and got the rights,” he reveals.
