Suriya contributes to farmers' welfare

The film directed by Pandiraj hails farming and imparts a message that educated youth should come forward and take up agriculture.

At the thanksgiving meet of Karthi’s recent blockbuster Kadaikutty Singam, his brother Suriya who produced the film presented '1 crore for the welfare of farmers. A cheque for the amount was handed over to Jayaraman, state coordinator of Save Our Rice Campaign, Tamil Nadu. The film directed by Pandiraj hails farming and imparts a message that educated youth should come forward and take up agriculture.

Speaking on the occasion, Suriya said, “If not for Pandiraj sir, this film would not have been possible. And its huge success has proved that good messages can be conveyed through cinema. We have plenty of doctors and engineers in TN. But not many of us know about farmers. More than all of us (actors), it is farmers who slog it out on our soil. I felt we should honour them and hence I am donating this '1 crore for agricultural welfare.”

He added quickly, “Let others make pure commercial films, we at 2D Entertainment are committed to make value based entertainers which would impart a relevant social message to the society.” Suriya also gave away Rs 2 lakh to each of five farmers who had achieved and brought changes in their respective produce.

Karthi who seemed in a blissful mood thanked family audiences who thronged the theatres and made Kadaikutty… a big hit. He revealed, “On the request made by farmers, we have started a revolutionary initiative called STOP, where S stands for Sugar and why white sugar should be avoided, T for turmeric and its rich medicinal values, O for oil generated from edible products and P for importance of pulses.”

The entire team including Sathyaraj, the lead ladies Sayeesha, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Arthana, Bhanupriya, Viji Chandrashekar, Mounika, Jeevitha , Indhumathi, Rajashekar Pandian, Imman, Soori, Ilavarasu, Ponvannan were present on the occasion.
