Marathi-born Anjali Patil shot to the limelight right from her first project Delhi In a Day, in Hindi. She then went on to be part of several award-winning films such as Naa Bangaru Talli and Chakravyuh. Recently, she was also conferred with the Sri Lankan Presidential award for With You Without You. Now, the talented actress has bagged the opportunity to star in Kaala, which has Rajinikanth and Huma Qureshi in the lead roles. Speaking to DC, Anjali says, “It is the best southern debut anyone can hope for! When I came to Chennai to meet director Pa Ranjith and his team, I felt that this an ideal group to work with. Even though I took some time to decide, I eventually made up my mind on this project elevating me in the film industry.”

Interestingly, Anjali has already worked with Dhanush, who is bankrolling Kaala. “We worked together in the Hindi film Nimmo, which is produced by director Anand L Rai. It is a happy coincidence to act in his production. When we were shooting for Nimmo, I told Dhanush about being in talks for Pa Ranjith’s project — he was surprised, and were having a good laugh about it! I admire him as an actor and I am extremely happy to be part of the Wunderbar family.” Nimmo, directed by Rahul Shanklya, will release this year. Dhanush plays a cameo in this film.

The actress is also currently  shooting for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mere Pyare Prime Minister. “Hectic weeks are ahead as I will simultaneously shoot for both the projects. It’s really a significant character in the film and a role that I’m looking forward to,” she adds. Talking about her Sri Lankan Presidential award win, Anjali proudly asserts, “It is a great feeling to get recognised for your work. It is like India’s national award in Sri Lanka. I am in a great space and looking forward to start working in Kaala.”

Reportedly, Rajini’s character in the film is that of a protector and destroyer. Kaala means Yaman (destroyer) and Rajinikanth is expected to fight for the oppressed community in Mumbai.
