Give heroines intellectual roles: Jyothika
At the promo event of her upcoming film Magalir Mattum, a women-oriented movie directed by national award winner Bramma, Jyothika made a request to all filmmakers to ‘portray the role of a woman with dignity in films’. Magalir Mattum is Jo’s second venture after her comeback vehicle 36 Vayadhinile, which was a box-office hit. The film, which has Ghibran as the composer, stars Jo, Urvashi, Bhanupriya and Saranya Povannan as the leads.
Jyothika looked excited and thanked all the men in her husband Suriya’s family, including father-in-law Sivakumar, Karthi among others, who have always been supportive of her endeavours. Giving out a message to all filmmakers, she said, “These heroes have huge followers; fans simply believe and follow them. Just like how you treat the women in your family, treat female artistes with dignity — by giving them decent clothes and intellectual characters — instead of showing them as a ‘loosu ponnu’! Yet another thing which really bothers me is the atrocious introuction given to heroines.”
She added, “Don’t encourage stalking in films and cast only one heroine for a hero instead of multiple girls! Also, refrain from writing scenes where heroines shamelessly follow the heroes.” She pointed this out to her hubby Suriya as well. He promptly replied that he will try and follow what Jo said, and promised that his production ventures would strive to make good and quality films.
