Critically acclaimed Ottrai Panai Maran to release in India
Ottrai Panai Maram, directed by Pudhiyavan Rasaiah and screened in 37 International Film Festivals, won 12 awards. The film, set against the backdrop of 30 years of armed conflict for a separate state for Tamils in Sri Lanka that came to an end on May 18, 2009 is to be released in India. The film highlights the plight of people in refugee camps between 2009 and 2012.
Talking to DC, Pudhiyavan, who also directed Maan earlier, says, “It is a journey of three lives affected by the war —Sundaram who lost his pregnant wife in the brutality, a widow who was a former revolutionist and now without any identity after losing her husband and a 16-year-old mute girl whose entire family was killed. I belong to Vanni and play the role of Sundaram and a personal loss that I suffered led to making this film.”
Ask the producer if he fears problems in clearance from the Censor Board and Thanigaivel replies, “No, not at all! The politics the film speaks in neither against India nor Sri Lanka. So, I don’t anticipate any hitch in getting censor approval. It is a good film. I am confident that the film will be lapped up by audiences as well as critics.”
