Will Kavalai Vendam strike gold for Jiiva?
Jiiva is over a decade old in this industry — yet pretty much has remained the same likeable person throughout his career! Known for picking diverse roles, the Ko actor has a spate of projects in his kitty. Ahead of Kavalai Vendam’s release, we strike a candid conversation with Jiiva.
KV is another rom-com for Jiiva, but he believes the script will lure the youngsters. “I’ve done several romcoms, but each time I wanted to be a different Jiiva. Those who have passed out of college can easily relate to KV. Even though it is a fun-filled story, the love portions are intense,” he says.
Talking about the cast of KV, he explains, “Mayilsamy aside, I was working with Kajal Aggarwal, RJ Balaji, Sunainaa and Bobby Simhaa for the first time. They enhanced my performance with their acting.”
He firmly believes in offering variety for the audience — “When it comes to films, people need something different in every movie. That is why I juggle between genres.”
With a promising line-up of films, Jiiva is sure to have an eventful 2017. “I have completed Ike Radha’s Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae, a horror comedy. I am now shooting for Kee, (in which I play a hacker) which is an action film inspired by the television series Black Mirror. That apart, I have Arun Kumar’s Nenjamundu Nermaiundu set against a North Madras backdrop,” he asserts.
In his 13 year-long career, Jiiva has mostly worked with newcomers. “With experienced directors, it is a different ball game. But with freshers, I have a lot of liberty to experiment. We sit together, brainstorm and weigh out our positives and negatives. Most of my trendsetting films were with newcomers,” he clarifies. The Pokkiri Raja actor signs off, reiterating that he is proud to have acted in more genres than any of his contemporaries.
