Parthiepan's ode to his mentor

The national award winner says that he chose Parvathy Nair, as he wanted a Malayali girl for his female lead.

Parthiepan is back to directing after his successful comeback as an actor, post Naanum Rowdy Thaan. Known for his quirky titles, his next directorial venture is no different. The crowd-funded flick is titled Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga, with the tagline, ‘A film with mistakes’.

Clarifying the tagline, he replies, “Now you are asking me about it. Similarly, I want the audiences to get curious about my hook line although it has a reference to my script. Even my earlier film had the tagline, ‘A film without a story’ and it was the main talking point.”

On choosing Shanthanu, he says, “Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga means ‘Fill in the blanks’. Just like my mentor Bhagyaraj filled the blanks in my life, I have written the script as a tribute to him — and have brought his son Shanthanu on board as the lead — this will fill the blanks in his career. He plays the character of a guy who has returned from the US.”

Parthiepan goes on, “We had conflicts during the first two days of shoot. Later, he understood what I expected from him, and has given a really subtle performance. No one else other than Shanthanu could have done this movie.”

The national award winner says that he chose Parvathy Nair, as he wanted a Malayali girl for his female lead. “She was very apt for the character I had conceived,in terms of skin tone, features, etc. More than my artistes whom I can mould accordingly, I have huge confidence in my script,” he explains.

Parthiepan too plays a role in the film. “I have given myself a new look for the role of Rangarajan,” he clarifies. While Thambi Ramaiah plays a full-fledged comedian in the film, Simran has been roped in for a cameo — she essays the role of a lawyer from Australia!

When asked if he would choose acting over filmmaking, he quips, “Undoubtedly, I get fulfillment when I wield the megaphone. After Naanum…, I got many acting offers. But I am choosy and picked up a few only.”
