Shooting on a cell phone

Santhosh Nambirajan makes a bid to enter the record books

Cinematographer-actor Santhosh Nambirajan, who shot to fame with his natural performance in the National Award-winning film To Let, has come out with a full-length feature film titled Akandan, the first movie to have been filmed completely using a mobile phone.

Apart from playing the protagonist, the young actor has also taken on multiple tasks — namely writing the story and screenplay and also direction, besides cranking the camera.

Speaking to DC, Santhosh said, “I am on a constant quest to explore something quirky. With the season of watching films on mobile phones revolutionising the movie watching experience, I thought why not try making a full feature film using the same device. And that’s how Akandan commenced. We have shot the entire film using iPhone 11 Pro mobile across three countries — India, Singapore and Malaysia — as the story required travelling to these places.”

While Harini Prasanna essays his pair, Chinese actor Yameen plays a crucial character.

“The action sequences shot with Yameen in Singapore will be among the highlights of the film. We have 30 artistes, including some from the three countries we shot in, on the supporting cast,” said Santhosh.
The actor has Vattara Vazhakku, where he plays the lead, in his kitty. He is also directing a new film named YOLO (You Only Live Once).
