Sigai' also stars lead actor in drag!

The film has been selected for a premiere in Hyderabad at the All Lights India International Film Festival on September 25.

Sigai, directed by Jagadeesan Subu, starring Kathir, Meera Nair, Raj Bharath, Rhythvika and Rajesh Sharma, is a story showcasing actor Kathir in two different getups — one of which is that of a female character — in the span of one day!

The film has been selected for a premiere in Hyderabad at the All Lights India International Film Festival on September 25. The movie has also been shortlisted for the festival’s Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) award.

When asked whether Sigai is a ‘festival’ film, Kathir says, “No, we cannot call Sigai an award or festival film. It is a crime-thriller that has all the commercial elements. But, you can’t find a kuthu song in this commercial film. The script has unexpected twists and intricate details. Sigai deals with the issue of prostitution and was shot in and around Chennai. “

Kathir who had to undergo hours of makeup for his female character did not expect such a overwhelming response with the first look poster. “It is a bold attempt and I was not confident of creating curiosity among people with my look. My make-up man Shakthi (who works for Ajith) did a great job.”

When asked about Remo, an upcoming film which also has the male lead playing a nurse, Kathir opines, “The genres of both the films are different. I think there won’t be any comparisons.”

The film, which was wrapped up a month ago, is in the post-production phase. The makers are planning to release the film in November.
