After MGR, Rajinikanth to address Eelam Tamils'

Superstar Rajinikanth will be in Yazhpanam on April 9.

Superstar Rajinikanth will be in Yazhpanam on April 9, to hand over the house keys to 150 Tamil families. The houses are built for displaced Tamils in Sri Lanka by Gnanam Foundation, named after Lyca Productions’ head, Alliraja Subashkaran’s mother Gnanam.

Confirming the news to DC, Raju Mahalingam of Lyca, said, “Yes, Gnanam Foundation has been extensively working on reconstructing schools that were destroyed during the civil war a few years ago. The 150 homes for the expats were completed in just one and a half years’ time, at a cost of '22 crores. It was a heart-warming gesture from the Superstar to have agreed to inaugurate and hand over the keys to the Eelam Tamils at an event on April 9. He would also be addressing a huge gathering there.”

A close source said that a massive crowd is expected on the occasion, since except for MGR who visited in 1965, no hero of this mass stature has visited Jaffna and addressed the Eelam Tamils. Rajinikanth’s magnum opus, 2.O, a sequel to his earlier blockbuster Enthiran, is being bankrolled by the Lyca banner. Meanwhile, the Kabali actor has clarified through his Twitter handle that his support is for no one in particular in the coming elections — putting an end to speculations of him supporting Gangai Amaran, the BJP candidate for RK Nagar elections, after he met him recently.
