I have learnt a lot from my mentor Lingusamy,” said journalist-turned-filmmaker Raju Murugan who made heads turn with his recent political satire, Joker. Earlier, after watching the movie, Lingusamy remarked that Raju has not learnt anything from him — but the former gained a lot after being a mentor to him!
Adding to this, Raju said, “It only shows Lingu sir’s humility. I am indebted to him for the rich experiences I gained being his protégé.” The young director reveals that many producers are arequesting him to remake Joker in Telugu. “I am keen to remake the flick in Bollywood. But I am yet to decide whether to remake in Hindi or Telugu. Though the core theme would go well with any type of audience, I will tweak it a bit to suit the local flavour, no matter what the language is,” he remarked.
“There was no opposition from any political quarter, or any threats to me after Joker released. In fact, many political leaders, whom I respect a lot, have praised the film,” he disclosed. After watching the movie, Communist leader Nallakannu, Viduthalai Sirutthai leader Thirumavalavan, and Superstar had heaped laurels on him for his bold attempt.
Rajini had even said, “You have made a bold film without compromises. We will meet soon.” Raju has now moved on to his next project, and is in the process of finalising the script.
