Thiagarajan as a political mastermind in Yaman

Though acting offers have been pouring in, Thiagarajan says he is not keen unless the film demands him for the character.

Veteran actor-filmmaker-producer Thiagarajan, who is picky when it comes to acting offers, is eagerly awaiting the release of Vijay Antony-starrer Yaman. Thiagarajan plays an important role of a political game changer in the film.

Speaking to DC, the multifaceted actor says, “I bought the Hindi remake rights of Naan and from then onwards, I have been closely interacting with Jeeva Shankar and Vijay Antony. One day, the director came upto me and said that he has a solid character for me in his political thriller Yaman. I listened to his narration for two and a half hours and felt it was a ‘compelling’ script. I thought that I should do it without any second thoughts.”

Talking about the character, he shares, “The movie has many twists and turns and I play Karunakaran, a kingmaker in politics. Though it is a fictitious character and does not resemble any real-life personality, the character envisaged by Jeeva Shankar will be sensational.”

He adds, “The movie was completed a few months ago, but there could be some portions which people would relate to with the present political scenario in the country — just like how Antony’s earlier film Pichaikkaran talked about demonetisation, much before its inception.”

Heaping laurels on Vijay Antony, he quips, “He is a hardworking person and soon will be in the same league as the top heroes in Kollywood.”

Though acting offers have been pouring in, Thiagarajan says he is not keen unless the film demands him for the character. “I am starting Prashanth’s next movie, which is a commercial thriller, directed by debutant Vetriselvan soon,” he says, as he signs off.
