Nayanthara is a boon to Tamil cinema: Mohan Raja

Raja says that imparting messages through big-budget films is also possible, which he has attempted in this movie.

Director Mohan Raja, who gave the super hit Thani Oruvan, returns after a gap with Sivakarthikeyan’s Velaikkaran. Raja says that imparting messages through big-budget films is also possible, which he has attempted in this movie.

“I don't believe in directing a film for the sake of money. The film reflects several questions that’s been troubling me over 20 years and I took time to qualify myself to work on it. In a way, Velaikkaran also echoes questions what people want to ask. It will address the problems faced by the working class and deal with capitalism. Had I said this in my debut or second film, audiences won’t accept. Thani Oruvan gave me an identity,” Raja reveals.

He added that without Siva, the film wouldn’t have been possible. On Nayanthara he said, “She is a boon to Tamil cinema.” The movie, which hits cinema halls today, has an ensemble cast of Fahadh Fasil, Robo Shankar, Vijay Vasanth, Prakash Raj and Sneha among others.
